Hollywood Forever

Today I’m exploring the famous sights of Hollywood. The sun is out and I have my oversized sunglasses at the ready, so it’s time to play glamorous tourist. Continue reading “Hollywood Forever”

Bonnie and Clyde

Today I’m going to go shoot a vintage rifle. It’s a beautiful old thing with a deep mahogany coloured wooden stock. It reminds me of the one in the pictures of Bonnie pointing it at Clyde i’ve seen over in Dallas. Continue reading “Bonnie and Clyde”

High on a hill

Today it’s misty meaning droplets of water are blowing in from the ocean. It’s not really raining, because it doesn’t, but everywhere the streets are wet. Continue reading “High on a hill”

A long walk on a short pier

I’ve heard good things about The French Market Cafe (cheers Guardian!) so I head up there this morning for breakfast. It’s at the very top end of Abbot Kinney and a good 40 minute walk past all the beautiful houses here in Venice. Continue reading “A long walk on a short pier”

Gon-dola with the wind

When I wake up today it’s still windy and cloudy, which doesn’t amuse me. Come on California, where is my sun?! The sky is scheduled to clear around noon so I potter about and grab some breakfast from whole foods until it clears (note: I am obsessed with this place and will be starting a petition to get one opened in Manchester upon my return). Continue reading “Gon-dola with the wind”

Who shot JR?

My 80’s soap opera trivia is second to none, so I’m well aware of the scandalous cliffhanger on TV show Dallas, with the teasing tag line: ‘who shot JR?’. What I didn’t realise was that back in the real world, Dallas is where President John. F. Kennedy was shot. Continue reading “Who shot JR?”

Music City

I wake up with an extremely sore head today and I’m feeling a little bit sorry for myself; not least of all because I have to leave the wonder of New Orleans behind me today.

Breakfast is a pleasure of plantain, eggs, avocado and salsa but I still can’t shake my hesitancy or my hangover. Continue reading “Music City”

And then the rains came…

Today it’s raining in South Florida. Not just raining though, a torrential downpour which has laid waste to my plans for more sunbathing time. This is rather sad as I really was hoping to even out that giraffe tan I’ve acquired on my feet before I leave, but c’est la vie. Continue reading “And then the rains came…”

An art buyer, a film director and an unemployed tourist go to the Whitney…

It’s my last night in NYC and I’m exhausted. Pathetic I know. But the idea of taking the A train downtown is the last thing I feel like doing after a full on day walking. But there’s one more thing I want to do. I set off slightly unenthused but I have to get to The Whitney Museum of American Art. I’ve been told that it’s the place to go since its move to the trendy Meat Packing District and I know I’ll only be cross with myself come tomorrow if I don’t make it. Despite its promise however, I’m having mixed feelings following my jaunt to MOMA yesterday which I found to be decidedly underwhelming. This coupled with my tiredness and I’m somewhat grumpy as I trudge to Chelsea early evening. Continue reading “An art buyer, a film director and an unemployed tourist go to the Whitney…”
