Forging a Dynasty

It’s our final day here in Vienna and we are heading slightly out of the city to visit Schönbrunn Palace. Referred to as ‘The Summer Palace’, it’s where the Habsburg’s spent the warmer six months of the year when they were not holding court at The Hofburg.

After a hearty breakfast, we take a cab past the industrial and more run-down outskirts, to what would once have been considered countryside and where it would have taken about three days to reach by horse and carriage. It takes us only 20 minutes by car, and as we round our final turn, suddenly there it is – lit up in all it’s glory by the mid-morning sun.

The Lonely Islands

It’s our last day here in Venice and with most of the key attractions covered we decide to venture a little further afield and visit some of the lagoon’s other islands.

Murano and Burano are a must for any traveller with a keen eye for photography. Known respectively for glass blowing and lace making, both islands are also famous for their brightly coloured houses. Gracing the pages of Pinterest and Instagram alike, i’ve already seen hundreds of beautiful images of the homes on my computer screen but am keen to see them for real. Black Beauty

Today it’s time to head out to wine country. Luckily for us, Alba is not only home to amazing food, but also happens to be located in the Piedmont region, whose hilly area, the Langhe, is a major wine production province. Yesterday we dipped our toe in the water with Barolo, which left me slightly underwhelmed, and so I am pinning all of my hopes on today to be completely wowed by what Italy has to offer when it comes to wine. The end has no end

Today I’m leaving America. A quick breakfast on The Strip, and then it’s time for this chapter to sadly come to close. Continue reading “The end has no end”

A canny tale

It’s still foggy here in Carmel today, and the sea mist keeps the air muggy, so my hair is in a ratchety mess of curls. Continue reading “A canny tale”

The Great Bixby

I have a feeling I should not have drunk the entire bottle of wine last night when my alarm goes off at 7:30am. Yuk. I would go back to sleep, but I have an early morning appointment with a castle. Continue reading “The Great Bixby”

Mustang Sally

It’s hard work getting up this morning, but I head up to collect my rental car from LAX. I’ve decided since I’m only going to do this drive once, I’m going to bloody well do it right and have therefore reserved myself a Mustang Convertible. Continue reading “Mustang Sally”

Hollywood Forever

Today I’m exploring the famous sights of Hollywood. The sun is out and I have my oversized sunglasses at the ready, so it’s time to play glamorous tourist. Continue reading “Hollywood Forever”

This ain’t my first rodeo cowboy…

Except of course, that it is. Today I’ve taken the TRE train an hour West of Dallas to Fort Worth to hit up The Stockyards. Continue reading “This ain’t my first rodeo cowboy…”
