Musings of questionable intellect

Day Tripper

So today I’m up before 7 (and on a weekend no less) as I have an early morning summons to be detained at her majesty’s (passport office) pleasure.

Some like it hot.

Now I like it hot just as much as the next person. For example, the current pleasant weather we are experiencing across the UK?  I very much like this hot. I also like a good cup of hot strong coffee, hot peppery chillies in food, and a hot glowing fire in deepest darkest winter… Continue reading “Some like it hot.”

Taking it sloe

I’m in Plymouth this weekend for the bank holiday visiting the bestie, and whilst she is out at work, I have the whole of Friday to myself; the perfect opportunity to explore my surroundings. Continue reading “Taking it sloe”

Wheel of fortune

I adore fairy stories. The Brothers Grimm, Hans Christian Andersen, even Disney. They’ve all been a staple part of my reading diet circa ‘a long, long time ago’. Hence how I find myself here this evening, at a concert about a fairy tale. When my friend invited me to join her for this Hallé orchestra event, she knew I’d say ‘yes!’ straight away given our current mutual obsession with ‘Once Upon a Time’ a TV show featuring all your favourite characters as they battle evil, cross realms, and fire off copious amounts of magic spells. The Avocado, baby.

I’ve always been a massive fan of the avocado. Growing up, I would watch my mother prepare this delicious and exotic snack for me. I would gaze with burgeoning delight as she scooped it’s green flesh from it’s tough bruise-purple skin; rippled and hard like a crocodile, or the folds on a tortoise’s neck. It was such a treat, and I would anticipate it’s arrival with impatience; eager to devour it’s creamy flesh, slick with oil and peppery vinaigrette. Continue reading “The Avocado, baby.”

Ch-ch-ch-ch-changes

April came to a close as if it were deepest darkest winter, the weather changing from a subtle spring sunshine, to a ferocious biting cold; bringing with it snow, hail and a dense milky fog.

My morning commutes to work offered a glimpse of the moors above me, their usually colourful and tree-lined foresty hilltops out of sight, masked by this uncustomary meteorological shift.  Continue reading “Ch-ch-ch-ch-changes”

An Oeuf-ully good breakfast.

So anyone who has been following my jaunts this past year will know my absolute love of eggs (if not please see previous documentation immediately before continuing), and how big a fan of this delicious protein-based breakfast goodness I am.

About: Time

I recently agreed to take part in a lifestyle survey about how I spent my time over the course of an entire week, logging my daily activities in half-hourly increments throughout the day. Honestly? it drove me completely frickin’ nuts. Not least of all because the bloody app sent me constant reminders to log my movements, but because this Orwellian style checking up on me was creating massive amounts of anxiety and claustrophobia by counting and recording the moments of my life in such microscopic detail. Continue reading “About: Time”

The Silver Linings Playbook

Kacey Musgraves saved my life. Fact.

That might sound a tad dramatic, but I single-handedly hold her responsible for fixing something inside of me that was once very broken. Continue reading “The Silver Linings Playbook”
